Boardwalk

Sebastian Quack’s Boardwalk invites visitors to the Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum to take a playful tour through the neighborhood and reflect on our preconceived ways of using space. Stations on the tour are well-known board games such as Monopoly, Settlers of Catan and Game of Life, here printed on stone, partly covered with earth, and buried in the ground: it seems the urban landscape has taken possession of them. Quack bypasses the games’ usual rules of play and interlinks them through rules of his own. Everyday objects such as stones or coins replace game pieces and dice. By juxtaposing the coded world of board games and the lived city, Boardwalk questions the organizational structures of urban space, while highlighting the lack of places to meet and interact in urban public space.

Boardwalk can be explored throughout the entire exhibition. The artist's instructions can be collected at Daseins Zentrum.
