PARCELLA SERIE 2007

Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri project the current struggle against the separation-wall that divides Israel and the areas under the Palestinian National Authority, onto the location of Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum. The project begins in 2006 with 16 trips that Anastas and Gabri take between occupied Palestine and Israel. They film discussions with scholars, activists and artists on both sides of the border, listening to the various and diverse perceptions and emotions provoked by the division and the wall’s construction.
In Berlin, they edit the footage of their trips into short documen- taries, which are then screened and discussed at the Hungarian Cultural Institute. The videos provide the prelude for a workshop on the following day at Skulpturenpark. Participants are invited to research and make protest signs against the building of walls and political barriers. Banners are hung in and around the park for the month, mixing references to the Israeli-Palestinian situation with the former Berlin Wall, and other divisive boundaries.
