Das Englische Wort “return” bedeutet sowohl Rückkehr, als auch Ertrag oder Gewinn. Diese Doppeldeutigkeit setzt inhaltlich und programmatisch den Ton für die diesjährige Ausstellungsreihe des Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum.  Das Künstlerkollektiv KUNSTrePUBLIK kehrt zurück aus dem in der Zwischenzeit aufgebauten Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (ZK/U) zu einem Gebiet in der Mitte Berlins, das — nach großflächiger Zerstörung im II. Weltkrieg — Ost- von Westberlin als Mauerstreifen trennte. Nach der Wende blieb die innerstädtische Brachfläche zwischen Spittelmarkt und Moritzplatz viele Jahre ungenutzt. Land's End

Wunderland exhibition series, January 24 – February 14, 2010

During this frigid winter month, six burnt-out and charred luxury cars line a vacant lot, which is advertised to become the future neighborhood of La Dolce Vita. Melodic sounds and voices emanate from inside the wrecked and blackened cars penetrating the cold air. The cars enact an urban drama of competing forces, which entails no less than a battle for social and cultural supremacy. Land's End is a Metropol-Revue, in which music and image, reality and poetry dramatize a Tragedy of Place. On the open-air stage of Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum, the forsaken cars play their roles with schizophrenic bravery. Wunderland exhibition series

July 2009 - February 2010

Construction has begun. On the central block of Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum's vacant lots, the foundations of a new apartment building have taken root. Floor by floor, the building emerges out of the ground and into the skyline. The building's architectural style pays homage to past conceptions of the future. Its neighbor, a planned Italian enclave represented with a “Dolce Vita” model-house, comes straight out of an imagined re-creation of the past. Built one-year ago, the model-house has acquired an aged patina and no longer sticks out like a new shoe. In the front garden, oleander plants blend in harmoniously, joining in peace with the wild flowers and grass on the surrounding vacant lots. Landreform exhibition series

November 2008 - March 2009

The land of Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum is in a state urban transformation. With the recent economic downturn notwithstanding, development is on the horizon. Both municipal authorities and private investors have been drawing up plans for this downtown wasteland, which was once the boundary between East and West Berlin. In LANDREFORM, the 5 founding members of Skulpturenpark present individual projects which subvert the claims to the land and the inevitability of its future.

Spekulationen exhibition series

November 2007 – March 2008

In September of 2007, Skulpturenpark's 800 square meter viewing platform and offices were purchased by an outside investor. The same individual also purchased a large portion of the land in front of the building which, unknown to the investor, is Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum. Shortly after, KUNSTrePUBLIK e.V., the operational arm of Skulpturenpark, was asked to vacate their space in order to make room for new, model luxury offices. In the midst of this current upheaval, Skulpturenpark is pleased to announce its new exhibition series, Spekulationen (eng. Speculations). Propelled by a Hungarian-German partnership, Parcella presents 7 artists' projects which discuss and reveal aspects of the park's historical significance, geographic diversity, present day ambiguity, and community habitation.

Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum GRAND OPENING In November 2006, Skulpturenpark had officially appropriated two city blocks for a sculpture park in downtown Berlin. Altogether the blocks contained 62 vacant lots for prospective real estate. The park has since grown to include peripheral blocks and more unused urban space. For more on the park, please go to Concept & History. KUNSTrePUBLIK members, Daniel Seiple & Harry Sachs established the Skulpturenpark billboard. Philip Horst, Markus Lohmann with Michael Böhler, and Matze Einhoff presented site-specific projects around, in and over the park.
